Jonathan Earle
Jonathan Earle has been our conductor and musical director since 2006.
He started playing the flute at the age of eight and joined the Stratford Concert Orchestra (now Stratford Symphony Orchestra, of which he is still a member), two years later. When he went to King Edward VI school in Stratford he joined the South Warwickshire Schools Wind Band which, as a result of educational cuts, in 1977 became the Stratford upon Avon Wind Bands Association (SAWBA), the organisation that now boasts Stratford Concert Band as its performing band.
Jonathan comes from a musical family and at one stage both his parents and two brothers were also members of the wind band. As well as the wind band and orchestra, he has also played for other groups such as orchestras for amateur dramatics performances in Worcester, Redditch and Stratford.
After many years as the principle flute in the band, Jonathan took on the role of Assistant Musical Director and then, in 2006, became its Musical Director. He believes that music is a wonderful way of bringing people together and in his own words: “Making music is a celebration and a way of communicating and sharing emotions. Playing and listening to music together is a mutual experience and I am firmly of the belief that the audience is as much a part of the concert as the players themselves.”
